Our Livestock

Our livestock, mainly native breeds, selected to COPE with the ever changing, sometimes harsh weather conditions, Isle of Skye has to offer.

At Bonnie Brae Croft, our daily life is shaped by the native breeds that share our land and our love for traditional crofting on the Isle of Skye. From our gentle Highland heifers - Annie, Lulu, Amy and Sharleen - to our flock of Hebridean sheep named after herbs and spices, and our one-of-a-kind cross-breed, Hippie, each animal has its own personality and purpose. Two rams, Robert and Bruce the 2nd, ensure a lively spring season full of lambs, whilst our characterful flock of hens, including a Swedish Flower Hen cockerel – Skånsk Blommehöna, and our noisy ducks keep our eggs fresh and our days entertaining. Busy honeybees complete the croft, working the wildflowers to produce our seasonal honey.

Also, we are members of the the following organisations:

Croft Life

We love of our livestock hence care for them with respect, selecting hardy, native breeds perfectly suited to Skye’s rugged weather and changing seasons. Join us for a glimpse into real croft life, meet the animals, and discover how they help us live and farm more sustainably on this beautiful island. If you’re interested in learning more or seeing the croft in action, we’re always happy to share our work - just let us know during your stay.
